We are currently offering a hybrid schedule. In-person classes will occur Monday through Thursday, with Friday being a virtual day for all students. An all virtual option is still available. Please reach out to your school with any questions.
Allison & Christopher Anderson were recognized by the Jenkins Board of Education at the February meeting. Allison & Christopher were given certificates and help open the meeting by leading everyone in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. They are the children of Chris and Debbie Anderson.
The BOE highlighted the Food Service staff at the February meeting. During the pandemic, March 2020 - Jan 2021 there has been 68,942 breakfast and 70,319 lunch meals served.
Custodians were recognized for their efforts during this school year. Custodians not only sanitized the building and keep them clean but they also retiled the band room, library, parts of the hallway out side the gym, and painted the entire gym. They also refloored the bathrooms for the preschool.
The bus drivers were recognized for their efforts during this school year as well.
Third grade student Livia Storm Reader led the December Jenkins Independent Board of Education meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Storm was nominated by her teachers to represent the school because of her excellent work with studies during virtual learning this school year.
Mrs. Taylor Newsome was given the Cavalier Star Excellence in Education Award for outstanding work in her virtual instruction this school year. Mrs. Newsome teaches 6-9 English/Language Arts and is the school librarian.
The Jenkins BOE spotlighted Arissa Mullins, Kaleigh Cook, Kenneth Sexton, Hannah Robbins, Jacob Kelly, & Baleigh Roberts for their placement in KMEA All-District Senior Honor Band at the December meeting.
Congratulations to Makala Stambaugh, winner of an All A scholarship for 2020-2021! Makala has won $1,000.00 to use at the college of her choice. Makala is the daughter of Victor and Melinda Jones and the late Warren Stambaugh of Jenkins
On 11/9/20, Senior Kristin Thacker signed to play basketball for Alice Lloyd College. Kristin excels on the court and off. Kristin takes college classes and was recently recognized as a WYMT Mountain Student Achiever.
On 11/4/20, Senior Abigail Bentley signed to run Cross Country for Alice Lloyd College. Abigail is a true student-athlete, working hard to maintain honor roll grades while competing at a high level.
Fourth grade student Xavier Robinson led the October Jenkins Independent Board of Education meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Xavier has demonstrated an excellent work ethic and participation with his studies during virtual learning this school year.
Ms. Kayla Justus was given the Cavalier Star Excellence in Education Award for her outstanding work in her virtual Kindergarten classes this school year.
We are pleased to welcome the Bell family to the Jenkins Cavalier family. Mr. Jeremy Bell is the new Middle School Special Education teacher. Mrs. Melisa Bell is our new Speech Language Pathologists.
Mrs. Anita Bolt - Instructional Coach at Burdine Elementary. Mrs. Bolt is a career Cavalier, having worked at Burdine Elementary for 30 years in Kindergarten & 1st Grade. Mrs. Bolt will be working directly with elementary teachers to strengthen instruction and help us build quality teachers.
Jenkins Independent School would like to welcome Mr. Travis Fields as our high school English teacher. Mr. Fields is the husband of our Business teacher Mrs. Candice Fields. Mr. Fields has taught Language Arts for seventeen years with numerous accolades, awards, and accomplishments.
Mr. Doug Barnett is the new Director of Technology for Jenkins Independent. Mr. Barnett says that his primary goal is to meet the needs of the students and staff at Jenkins to the best of his ability.
Jenkins Independent would like to introduce our community to our new middle school Social Studies teacher, Ms. Jenna Robinson. Ms. Robinson recently graduated from the University of Pikeville with a bachelor's degree in History & Political Science.
Please welcome to Jenkins high school Social Studies teacher Chris Salyers. Mr. Salyers is a 2017 graduate of the University of Pikeville with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies.
This year Mr. Brian Bentley has accepted a position at the district level in the role of Instructional Supervisor and Digital Learning Coach. Mr. Bentley has 27 years of teaching experience.
